REVISION PROPOSAL 0. The paper. Which paper will you revise? Why? ("It's the one I got the worst grade on" is an acceptable answer.)

1. Subject. What problems did you encounter in writing about your subject the first time? How can you address those problems to cover your subject more thoroughly, more thoughtfully, more compellingly, or from another perspective? Should your subject be narrowed down or refocused?

2. Exigence. What changes can you make to respond more effectively to the paper's exigence? Has the exigence changed for you since you wrote the original draft? Should you take a different approach or choose a different medium to address the situation more fully?a. How can you engage more deeply in the ongoing conversation surrounding your topic or issue?

3. Audience. What problems did you encounter with writing to the audience for the original draft? What changes would you need to make in the style, the argument, or the framing of your paper, to appeal to them more effectively?a. Would another audience be a better choice? Why do you think so?b. What can you do to better accommodate the knowledge, opinions, beliefs, and misunderstandings your audience has about the topic?c. How will you refine or correct the way that you approach your audience? that you address their concerns, or establish common ground with them?

4. Purpose. What was your purpose in the original draft? Should it be reconsidered or narrowed down? What do you want your audience to do as a result of your writing? What changes can you make in the structure, the style, the argument, the evidence, or particular sections of the paper, to better achieve your purpose?

5. Fitting Response. What medium and/or genre will best deliver your message? Will you be changing your medium/genre? How will it help? How will this particular medium reach your audience?

6. Available Means. Taking a deeper look, what are the constraints (negative obstacles) and resources (positive influences) of your particular rhetorical situation?a. What rhetorical strategies can you add, or modify, to help you achieve your purpose? Which ones didn't work and should be removed? How can you better establish common ground with your readers?

7. Tentative Thesis. Will you be changing your thesis from the original draft? How will you be changing it, and how will it help your paper as a whole?
